Beating the Competition With Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Part 7

Still more about metatags

Websites are able to lure the search engine spiders through the use of metatags, and whether or not the words in the metatags are also used on the page. So yes, you may find some great keywords, but don’t just stuff your metatags.

Use the right metatags and descriptive words on the correct page. . For example, if you are dealing with high blood pressure on one page, focus on that topic. You can talk about stroke or the DASH diet on two other separate pages, with appropriate keywords, metatags and content on each of those pages as well.

Once you’ve completed your keyword research, search for ways to increase the quality of your own site. Think about different kinds of content, more effective keywords, and any other changes that will make your stand out above the competition.

Keep in mind that this is an ongoing process. You will need to do this on a regular basis to stay above the competition, and also because the search engines change their algorithms, what they find relevant, quite frequently.  Therefore, a site that may be scoring highly one day may vanish the next.

The same is true for SEM keywords. Many people have been ‘Google slapped’, told their site or their ads are unacceptable because new practices mean you’ve run afoul of some new rule. SEO takes time and effort in coming up with the keywords. SEM can involve real money, wasted money or even no traffic at all if you are Google slapped hard enough.
